Christmas morning, installed this on my system for my kids. The software installed okay, but just threw a system error when I tried to run it. No splash screen, no advice about what might be wrong, just a windows error, this application will close. My computer meets all the minimum requirements. So I had two disappointed kids on Christmas morning.
IMHO, the system requirements for this game are insanely high for what the game is supposed to be doing. Let’s face it, all this game is about is hitting the right colored button at the right moment. There is no need for these high requirements, except shoddy programming. The only thing I can figure is that the game is running on a Wii emulator for the PC, which would explain the high requirements.
I expect commercially marketed software to at least get me to an interface screen that does something before it crashes. This is not ready for prime time.
This is the second unfavorable review I have written for this piece of junk, the first one apparently didn’t get posted. Does Amazon cherry pick only favorable reviews? I wonder how much they get for that service?

“I want to say the Seller was just great, my item arrived earlier than expected which is always nice.
But before you buy this product you better read the fine print! You need a very specific computer system which is not easy to figure out unless you are an expert and believe it or not the packaging is very deceptive about that!! It is basicly MAC ONLY in the fine print,which does refer to Windows XP sp2 on it which is wrong! So buyer beware!!

My sister used to religiousely play the game Super Guitar Maniac Deluxe, a flash game that was a watered down version of Guitar Hero. As she hurridely unwrapped the packaging of the gift I gave her she was already running to her computer to install it. My sister had the newest, most expensive Macbook (which is a must for a religious World of Warcraft player that she was)and she sat watchting the bar go from the left to the right as it installed. She had a huge smile on her face when the “INSTALLATION COMPLETE” sign appeared. She plugged in, and fired up “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benetar. As that first note came glowing in she was ready. And then she missed the note. She missed the note after that, and after that, and after that. I tried it (having played it so many times at countless friends houses), and quickly became aggravated. So I tried it on my screaming fast HP laptop. It didnt work. When the requirements to run the game were checked, I realized that almost no Macs are able to run this pathetically ported game. I am angry. Now, I have to go to the post office and pay those people more than ten dollars, to return something that was supposed to work. IF YOUR GOING TO CHARGE $[...] FOR SOMETHING, MAKE SURE IT ACTUALLY WORKS ON NORMAL COMPUTERS!!!

I received this a Christmas gift, only to find that I would have to spend at least four times the price of this game to build a new system to run this on.
When contacting ‘Aspyr’ for a refund, they told me they could only give me a refund if the game is defective, and since I could not run it and prove its defective they could not help me (yes, real bad customer service). I even shot them my system specs for proof that I did not have the horsepower to run it, let alone the amount of money that would cost to build a system to their minimum specs… they said there was nothing they could do.
So, let me tell you… if you can just purchase the Guitar itself, do so, and leave the software to collect dust. There is a better game that you can use this guitar on called “Frets of Fire”, its legally free, and it
will import all Guitar Hero songs into it, and it works on my system (Atholon XP 2.0 GHz) without any issues.
Frets works 100% with the USB GH3 guitar, and allows you to create your OWN songs. So you are not limited to the 70 songs on GH3.
I played this on the Wii originally (thats what got me hooked), but
now after after a few weeks of Frets, I find it more enjoyable then
GH3.
aspyr – terrible customer service, thats why I gave this a 1 star rating, I would have even been happy with another title from aspyr that worked with my system.
Thats my review (and my .02), and I hope you find it useful when purchasing titles from aspyr/activision in the future.
